Can Strategy Games Really Work On A Phone?

I used to think strategy games just didn't belong on touchscreens. Too many fiddly controls, too much precision needed. Then I spent a weekend with Harbor Command and had to rethink that.

The games that work are the ones designed for the screen from the start, not ported from a mouse-and-keyboard layout. Harbor Command uses big, clear tap targets and a pace that forgives slow fingers.

That said, the genre still has limits on mobile. Anything with dozens of units selected at once gets painful. The best mobile strategy keeps the unit count sane and leans on good automation.

My takeaway is that strategy belongs on phones, just a particular flavor of it. Play to the device's strengths and the genre shines.
