Why I Keep Coming Back To Arcade Racers
I've tried a lot of racing games on mobile, and I keep landing back on the arcade ones. Neon Drift Rally reminded me why. Precise simulation steering is a nightmare with tilt controls, but a game built around exaggerated drifts turns that limitation into the whole appeal.
The trick good arcade racers pull off is making you feel skilled quickly. The first few minutes are usually awkward, then something clicks and you start reading corners before you reach them.
My advice for any new arcade racer is to turn off the assists you don't need and spend ten minutes just learning one track. Muscle memory does most of the work after that.
It's not a genre that wins awards for depth, but for a bus ride it's hard to beat. Sometimes you just want to go fast and look cool doing it.
